In times of rupture and uncertainty, when sirens echo and silence becomes a form of
survival, art does not retreat — it transforms. It takes cover, but it speaks. #MiklatArt
invites artists living in Israel to respond creatively to this historical moment by
exhibiting their work in an unexpected yet deeply symbolic space: the miklat
(shelter), mamad, or any protective room.
We ask:
What does it mean to create under threat?
What message feels urgent to send from the depths of your shelter?
What do you hold onto — and what must be let out?
This is not a traditional exhibition.
It is an act of presence. A transmission from within. A fragmented archive of now. ⸻
How to Participate:
1. Create or select one artwork that reflects what is vital to you in this moment —
whether personal, political, spiritual, or sensory.
2. Install it in your shelter space (miiklat / mamad / safe room). This can be a
painting, drawing, installation, video on a screen, sound piece — anything that fits
your chosen space.
3. Photograph or film the work in the shelter setting. Be as minimal or theatrical as
you wish.
4. Post the image or video on Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag
#MiklatArt2025, tag curators @finkelstein_art , @vera_gailis and invite for
collaboration (for Instagram only) the project page @mikladart
5. Submit your documentation and a short statement (max 500 words) via the form
Selected entries will be included in a digital catalog archiving this moment from
within — through the eyes, hands, and hearts of artists. There is also a possibility of
follow up exhibition. ⸻
Why Now?
MiklatArt emerges from a state of collective compression — social, psychological,
political. The shelter becomes not only a site of protection, but a space for reflection,
intimacy, resistance, and speech. This open call is a gesture toward connection in
isolation, toward memory in the making.
Let your art shelter us. Let it speak from the inside out.
